So I went walking this morning, feeling optimistic that this horrendous winter was finally over, came home, opened Tumblr - and got hit in the face with the news that Lycaon is disbanding.

I haven't been a fan for that long (I got into them after my most recent Japan trip, when I attended an instore for the release of Shadow - I have a picture of myself with the band on my phone). That doesn't mean I didn't come to love this band a lot in that short time. The thing with Lycaon is they're not not just some all-image-no-music outfit, they are a GOOD band. They're a complete package - talent, presentation, songwriting. They just got better and better with every release, and their latest album is flat-out classic. Heck, I had hoped that their future music would be strong enough to pull back in all those wayward VK fans who strayed from the fandom. I'm glad they're turning the best song on that album, Gypsy, into their final single/PV. It's what they deserve to go out on.

I just hope the members, especially Yuuki and Satoshi, stay in the industry and form new projects. They are just too talented to vanish into the ether. Hell, I want to see Yuuki pull a Kamijo and launch a solo career with image and persona intact.

Dammit, what the hell is happening to my favorite bands over the last 12 months? SCREW and D=OUT lost members (and D=OUT has been silent lately while Kouki has launched a solo project, which is worrying), Alice Nine split from PSC and are now struggling to relaunch themselves, now Lycaon are splitting up . . . *Binds GazettE together with duct tape, then does the same to Diaura*

I've been a fan for a whole 4 months. What the hell Lycaon!!!! :'(

They were just challenging Versailles as my all time favourite band (excluding Malice Mizer)

I know. After this last album, I had come to think of Lycaon as "the best band in Japan whose name isn't GazettE." I was so looking forward to what they would come up with after Camera Obscura, because they seemed to be coming into their own artistically in a big way. I was a fan for just a slightly longer period (which shows how much of an impact they could make in just a short time). I really am hoping they all stay in the industry, they're too talented to let it go to waste.

Who knows what they're planning. I can't seem them disappearing after their recent success though. *praying*

I will probably really die a little inside if something like this happens the GazettE or Diaura. I wasn't into Lycaon that long either, but they were a promising band it seems and I'm sure I'll come to miss them more and more the deeper I look into their music. Hopefully some of the members will have solo projects, but honestly I worry about VK's future.

Oh, dear God, I would have a heart attack if GazettE or Diaura were to disband (or, for that matter, SCREW). With Lycaon going away, Diaura's now the only "younger" band on my favorites list (and I'm pinning my hopes for the future of visual kei on them).

I hadn't heard about Lycaon. That's so sad! I really hope they find other ways to remain in the industry. It would be a shame to lose such talent!

A shame, indeed - I had really, really hoped that they were the future of visual kei, that they were the band that was going to pick up the torch from GazettE and Alice Nine and carry it forward to the next generation. They had REALLY progressed on their latest album, and I was so looking forward to what they would do next.

I was surprised about the Lycaon news too. Especially since it's been no time at all since they released their newest album. It's not what one expects from a busy band... (I'll be contrary though and say that I still like their previous album more than the latest. ;) )

Music business is tough and predatory, but what makes already established bands disband and disappear is a mystery to me, while new (frankly quite mediocre) bands pop up all the time. So weird.

It's not what one expects to hear from a ecently-active band at ALL. I mean, I thought it was odd that the album was released without a PV, but I just shrugged it off as "Well, they're indie, they've got three songs on the album with PVs aleady, maybe they don't have the budget for another one." (Lycaon's PV budgets seemed to go mainly into Yuuki's fetish gear. XD)

And it's very strange why an established band that sold out shows all the time, plus had a devoted overseas following, suddenly disappears. You're right about mediocre bands popping up all the time, and that's probably the saddest thing about this breakup - there's a billion second-rate bands out there who are just coasting on their looks and skill with makeup (not naming names here), and we're losing a GOOD one. I've seen a couple of people saying this breakup is making them fear for the future of visual kei, period. I'm not quite sure if the situation is that dire (there's still other good younger bands out there, like Diaura), but it's definitely not a good sign.
