Okay, I have absolutely no idea where this Shou/Kai GIF I found on my hard drive came from, but it may be one of the Cutest Things Ever:

I set up a Dreamwidth account, same name as this one, just in case the mass migration from LiveJournal happens. May just use it as a storage place for my fics, I don't know. I also looked into other options for places to post fic. Apparently, Rockfic.com has Alice Nine and GazettE available as bands they will accept fic for, except nobody's actually uploaded any. (The most fanficced band on that site, by the way? Metallica. Um, yeah. Far be it from me to begrudge anyone else's taste in slash material, but . . .)

But, anyway, on to the main point of this post . . .

Year-End Writer's Meme! (Based on one I've seen around LJ and Dreamwidth).

Total Number of Completed Stories: Eighteen. Sixteen in the main Stargazer series, one ToraXSaga sidestory, one totally unrelated RukiXShou under another pen name.
Overall Thoughts: I'd been away from writing for awhile. I thought I'd try one ShouPon fic as an experiment . . . and that lead to another fic (well, I couldn't end on the bummer the original Stargazer did, could I?) and another, and another . . . And before I knew it, I was fully back in the saddle, and oh, am I glad to be there.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted? I didn't go in with any kind of goal - just sort of, "Whatever happens, happens." I would have liked to have done a little more - fall was basically lost for me, because my life hit a rough patch - but I'm pleased with my overall output.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? I would have never thought I'd be writing GazettE fic. Back in January, I was still new to the Alice Nine fandom, so I was kind of tentatively feeling my way around the rest of the J-rock universe. I never would have dreamed the other band I'd fall head over heels for would be "that heavy metal band with the reputation for attracting crazy fangirls." (The reputation is bull, BTW. Every single person I've come across in the Gazefandom so far has been lovely).
What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? It would have to be The Strip of a Lifetime, if only because I had fun with the scene where Saga is grilling Hiroto about why he's being so melancholy on the tour bus.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? I wrote the whole first third of the Stargazer series in present tense - something I didn't have a lot of experience with. I ended up giving that up because I kept switching to past tense and had to go back and put it in present - it taught me that it's damn hard to maintain the momentum of a "non-traditional" writing style for any length of time.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? To finally write the Lost Stargazer Fic - the one about how Hiroto got Ruki and Aoi together. It's going to have some flashbacks to the pre-Shou-and-Hiroto-as-a-couple past, too.
From my past year of writing, what was...

My best story of this year:
Toys for Boys. I'm pleased with how this one came out - I think it hit the right humor/smut balance, and it was the first time I felt truly comfortable writing all five members of Alice Nine - Nao eluded me for a long time.
My most popular story of this year: Going just by number of comments, that would be You Twit!, which is, ironically, my one non-smut fic. That was one that just HAD to be written - when I saw Shou call Hiroto "hot" on Twitter, the fic wrote itself (I tried to preserve all the actual tweets in the story, too).
Most fun story to write: The aforementioned You Twit and Toys for Boys. The scene in the sex toy shop was a hoot - especially writing Nao's reactions to everything he saw. (That was another story inspired by a random quote - this time, on Naoquotes, where Nao expressed his horror at seeing Hiroto buy "a massager that would shock young girls.")
Story with the single sexiest moment: Camshot - aka Tora and Saga's Adventures in Voyeurism. And, yes, the peeping thing was so nice I did it twice - Mistletoe has Shou and Hiroto, who were the spied-upon in the first story, as the voyeurs this time around.
Story with the single funniest moment: Toys for Boys - Flight of the Pink Butt Plug. 'Nuff said.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Your Chocolate Kiss - more like it shifted my perception of where the series as a whole was going. That was the point where Stargazer shifted from being angst/smut to humor/smut/romance. After the scene with the who-got-the-most-chocolates contest, I never looked back.
Hardest story to write: I don't think I really have one that was overly hard, though Dinner for Dorks was challenging because of the sheer number of people I was bringing into the story. (I still don't think that one was entirely successful - though I do think the dancing-in-the-disco-turning-into-mad-passionate-sex scene came out well).
Biggest Disappointment: The fact that I missed so much writing time in the fall. But at least I'm getting back on track now!
Biggest Surprise: Quite frankly? That I'm writing J-rock fic, period. Back when I was writing animanga fic exclusively, I was, surprise surprise, one of those "oh, my God, how can you write fic about REAL PEOPLE?" fangirls. And then, I actually tried it - and found that I love it. (I don't think I'd do real-person fic about people who actually speak English and could read what I wrote, though). Trying to figure out "what could have happened here" around a few tweets or a random bit of dialogue on Alice Nine Channel presents a set of challenges entirely different than working with a well-thought-out fictional canon - and it's a lot of fun. (And, okay, the writing hot smut about very beautiful men part doesn't hurt, either.)

Oh, and my second-biggest surprise? My taste in GazettE pairings. When the band first appeared in Stargazer, I had them arranged in the most popular fanfic pairings (ReitaXRuki, AoiXUruha). And then, I became a fan, and found out (thanks to some fantastic writers) I actually liked AoiXRuki and UruhaXKai. Whoops, time for some quick breakups in the Stargazerverse so I can rearrange everyone!
