Benedict Cumberbatch haters, you have been vindicated - his new movie, The Fifth Estate, scored the weakest opening of any film opening in more than 1,500 theaters this year. Yes, that makes it an even bigger bomb than The Lone Ranger. You may commence gloating . . . now. (Actually, the enormity of the bomb is pretty surprising given the amount of SuperWhoLock people on Tumblr. Maybe they just don't want to see him in a party that's not Sherlock or KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!)

Meanwhile, I am anxiously watching my inbox for my shipping notice - though CDJapan already pulled ye olde "Whoops, we're going to need more money to ship this thing!" Um, yeah, seriously considering switching to another service for the next Gaze album. I'm giving HMV a test run with SCREW's new single.

As for the Inside Beast preview . . . ha, I am SO glad that the fandom is FINALLY starting to see Kai as hot and not Mama Kai, or Just The Cute One. All it took was a whip. XD I've written a previews-inspired fanfic, which I was going to post on the day of the album release - but I'm now considering posting it earlier. Once the album comes out, people will be too busy freaking out over the songs and PV to read fanfiction.

Weakest opening this year? Despite his loyal Cumberbitches? Excuse me while I indulge in an evil laugh!

Mwahahaha! Mwahahahahahaha!!

*ahem* Ok, I'm good now. :D

Oh, yes, and he had loudly proclaimed "The Cumberbitches have my back" before the film opened. (It was a question about whether he feared revenge from the real-life person he was portraying, but hey). Guess they didn't have his back to the extent that they thought!

Whoops. XD Oh well... guess they can only be relied on to show up to films where he looks... *shudder* Actually, I can't say it. Vaguely human is the best I can go for, which he couldn't even manage in this film, what with the dodgy blond hair and worrying accent.

Oh, in the comments in that article, the Cumber Collective (as they're apparently now calling themselves) are claiming they DID go to the movie - it's just that nobody else did, because the subject matter is a tough sell. (And one of them blamed postproduction for the movie's failure).

You have got to be kidding me! I've got to go read this now, huh?

Also, Cumber Collective? Sorry, I think it's a bit late to rename yourselves...

There's a lot to wade through (which is common for Entertainment Weekly postings), but there's some gems in there from both the pro- and anti- Cumber factions. I just found one comparing him to Leonardo di Caprio (because "people hate actors who are regarded as attractive or sexy!") and another claiming that "He's a star around the world! He's big in Japan!" (Why, by that criteria, we can say the GazettE is the biggest band on the planet, can't we?) Another one answered a comment that Cumberbatch is a terrible actor and ruined Star Trek Into Darkness with his hamminess by saying, "He got a Lawerence Olivier award for his performance in 'Fankenstein'. I think you may spell 'terrific' wrong into 'terrible'." (Spelling and punctuation intact from original). As for the name, one of them is now claiming that only "a tiny part of the fandom" has ever called itself Cumberbitches.

I'm still making my way through the comments, but I'm sure that somewhere along the line, one of them will call for him to get the lead in 50 Shades of Grey. (Very proud of the Sixth Guns for not having made a single "50 Shades of Kai" joke, BTW).

Connecting Kai to that terrible book would be a grave insult, so yes, very glad for that too. And I would have to kill anyone who does make a joke like that. :D

I saw some and my brain gave up... Big in Japan is not a valid form of popularity. If anything, Big in Japan is what people say when they know they're not popular. I don't think Mr Cucumberpatch is quite that desperate, but... Yeesh. O_o

Eeek, I never want to see anyone connecting him to shitty book! Ever!!! D:

The CumberBitchCollective is now alleging that most of his fanbase is overseas and the movie will make more money internationally (someone pointed out to them that the movie has already flopped in Cumberbund's home country).

Anyone who seriously connects Kai to 50 Shades of Grey should have to read 50 Shades of Grey. Listening to the Cookie Monster version on YouTube doesn't count.

*cough* Ahem.

:D :D :D

And there was much rejoicing!

Also, yes, finally fans have realized Kai is hot! But it does make me a little grumpy that they act like he only because hot now and wasn't earlier, saying he was hiding it. Excuse me? It's been out in the open the whole time!!!

Exactly!!! Have these people not seen the Melt pamphlet, for example? Or the R&R interview where he has his shirt off? O_O
Oct. 21st, 2013 07:04 pm (UTC)
Ha, I thought of you and misumaru as soon as I saw the headline this morning! And it's been hilarious watching the Cumberbitches fall all over themselves in the comments of the article explaining why the film flopped. "It was R-rated! A lot of his fanbase is underage!" (Um, thought he had a ton of ADULT fans.) "Most of his fans are not in the US. The film will make much better in the rest of the world - which is 99 % of the world!" To which a Cumber detractor replied, "5th estate bombed in UK where he is supposedly as big as God himself. Nuff said." (The same detractor, by the way, responded to another person who said, "Aren't you looking at it from the wrong angle? Because I think the only reason this movie grossed anything was because hardcore Cumberbatch fans went to see it just because of him" by saying, "Considering that movies with far less hyped actors made more, that's pretty damn pathetic hardcore fanbase.")

HIDING it? Um, were they not paying attention to the Melt pornphlet, and the nipple-flashing Shoxx layout, and ANY picture from the Before I Decay/Dim Scene era, and the chest-baring, leg-spreading Rock and Read shoot, and the belly-flashing costumes he wore ALL THE WAY BACK IN HIS FIRST COUPLE OF YEARS WITH THE BAND, and . . . GHAAA.
Oct. 21st, 2013 07:21 pm (UTC)
LOL I have no idea why! ;) Haha! That's a lot of backpedaling! It is amusing! :D

Yeah, I have no idea! It seems to me these people have not even looked at his pics before!!!
Oct. 21st, 2013 07:58 pm (UTC)
Oh, they are grasping at EVERYTHING. Including comparing him to other actors. "So what if he had one flop? Look at Ben Affleck! He made GIGLI and he has an Oscar now!" It's amusing indeed.

Okay, if those fans were primarily fans of another band member, I can see how they wouldn't have bought the Rock and Read and Kai-only Shoxx - but hello, those pictures were (and are) ALL OVER TUMBLR! Anyone who's spent any time in the GazettE tag has seen them!
Oct. 21st, 2013 10:04 pm (UTC)
I don't know of this movie that you speak of....

But yeah screw those people that are now noticing Kai! Ugh these previews have got me going in circles right now I cannot wait for this damn video to come out. Like there are 2 Rukis, 2 Uruhas...are there 2 Aois? 2 Reitas? 2 Kais?!! Is Kai spanking himself?? Who or what is Kai looking at in the peephole!! Arggghhh! I have never been anticipating a video like this I don't think ever! I hope it does not disappoint!

I think EVERYONE is breathlessly awaiting the full PV - the previews have a lot of people thinking. I believe the full video will be based around the dual nature of each band member, and Kai is, indeed, both the sadist and the masochist - he has described himself as a masochist, but the other Gazemen say he's a sadist. So the video will have each of them confronting the other side of his nature.

There seems to be an overall decrease of fic reading on Lj anyway, so I doubt the date and time for publishing doesn't matter much. Or at least reader response seems to have come to a halt, which is sad. I of course, don't know about you and your situation, but I'm experiencing a dry season. I'm kinda sad, because I've gotten used to getting response on Lj lol. :') #firstworldproblems

It's because all of fandom is moving to Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr now - I've actually seen whole fics posted to Tumblr (and they're not exactly easy to read there). What I've been doing lately is putting a link to each fic I do on my Tumblr - it helps somewhat, at least. (I don't have a Twitter and I absolutely refuse to use Failbook, especially for fandom stuff. I don't want my gay pr0n connected to my real name!)
Oct. 22nd, 2013 01:46 pm (UTC)
Not really digging the idea of posting a whole fic on tumblr, tbh, because that platform is severely lacking in ways to thank commentators or just be interactive with one another without making new text posts after text posts, which in the end just end up clogging the dashboard. :( And twitter... LOL, I use it mostly as a message service between friends and updating random shit, not for fandom precisely... Eeeh. And people using fb... Just no. I mean, I don't even use fb, have no profile, no nothing, but WOAH. Do people really do that?
Maybe I'll have to start cross-posting fic links too. :D
Oct. 22nd, 2013 03:02 pm (UTC)
I don't think they're posting entire fics on Facebook, but I think they are putting links there, since people don't seem to go to LJ anymore except if someone deliberately points them there. (Which is a shame, because LJ is SO much better for two-way communication than Tumblr, especially. Don't know why Tumblr is considered a social network, since it's such a pain for socializing).
