I'm writing this five days after Hurricane Sandy. I'm in a hotel in Cherry Hill, NJ, just outside of Philadelphia. I took my parents there after they spent three days and nights without power and in the cold.

My hometown still doesn't have power. When I left, there was nowhere to buy gas. One grocery store was still working on a generator, and had enormous lines. Ditto the one convenience store that was the only place offering hot coffee. Nobody can go to work, nobody can go about their normal lives. Everywhere you go, you see people just wandering, because they have nothing else to do.

I don't want to see what happened at that Belmar boardwalk - I've heard it was completely destroyed. That is the boardwalk that I walked end to end weekend after weekend, listening to GazettE or Alice Nine - as of late, mostly Division. It's pretty hard to believe I may never walk it again.

When we left, they were talking about shutting off the water, or at least seriously curtailing use. Apparently, the lack of power is causing problems in the pumping stations. We got out just in time.

So, yeah, holed up in this hotel and waiting for the power to come back. Hey, at least there's a shopping center across the street with a Starbucks, and a Panera Bread, and a Best Buy, and a Barnes and Noble.

Omg ... I m glad you are safe now and wishing you and your family all the best in future ... I hardly can imagine how devastating this storm could destroy so many lives and livings at the east coast ... But i have heard in the news the president declared it as catastrophy area so everybody gets help easier ... I dont know how it works but may be your family can get some help as well by local government when showing you are from this area ... At least they promissed to help as swift as they can ... Lottsa love and stay tuned with the internet which might give you more info about the current situation ... *hugs tight* ... xoxo ... <3 ...

*hugs* I'm glad to hear you're safe, at the very least. Here's hoping some kind of normalcy returns soon! :(

I'm glad to hear you're safe, but sorry to hear things are so bad over there. :( At least the hotel seems okay, but the situation is still far from perfect. *hugs* Good luck, I hope you'll be able to go home and get back to normal life soon. :(
