My partner in fanfiction crimes, my beloved netbook, finally died this past week. That thing and I have been through a lot together. It's been carried all over the place in tote bags, purses, carry-ons, and, yes, occasionally, a proper netbook bag. It went with me to Japan and has crossed the border to Canada innumerable times. It's been bumped around and X-rayed in countless airports, dropped, spilled on, and, in one case, drenched by a sprinkler (when I happened to be writing in a park a bit too close to the spigots as the spray went off).

I watched a lot of streaming video on that thing, including all of Meine Liebe (without which I probably wouldn't be on this journal now - Meine Liebe led to Alice Nine led to me getting back into fanfic writing). I surfed the web with it in numerous bookstores, Starbucks, and, yes, parks - my favorite writing venue during the summer.

Most of all, in the past year and a half, I wrote on it, and wrote on it, and wrote some more. If you've read a Stargazer fic, chances are at least some of it was written on that netbook. (I have a vivid memory of writing last year's Valentine fic - which I consider the first true Stargazer story - in a library lobby).

So you can imagine why my reaction to its demise was . . . well, remember those tweets when Ruki was talking about the death of his longtime Mac, how it was his artistic partner? Yeah, it was like that.

But the good news is, I have a new netbook! I'm coming to you now from a brand spanking new Acer Aspire One, all glittery red finish, thinner and lighter than my old netbook. First thing I did once I had it up and running is download the tools of the fangirl trade - Chrome, LJ Juggler, AIM, RealPlayer and OpenOffice. So it shall be ready for fanfiction action as soon as I am!

I'm sorry for your loss! :( But I also send a warm welcome to your new family member!!! (I also know exactly how both Ruki and you felt... It's awful.)

Our computers become precious to us. We share so much, spend so much time together, in joy and in frustrations. :D

Funnily enough, I've been contemplating whether it's worth picking up a netbook myself. It'd certainly have a better battery time than my current laptop, and would be a hell of a lot lighter to carry around....

Still, my condolences for your previous machine, and may your new one bring you many years of happy smut!

My condolences for your loss, its really like losing a family member when your computer dies -___- Reminds me that my mac laptop baby is getting old, and maybe I should start looking for a replacement ( mac laptops are so expensive though -___-) But eh, it had a good smutty life ;) Welcome to your new family member, and wishing you many years of smutty goodness with it XD xoxo

p.s. Our little "project" is coming along nicely despite my insane life, I think I will be able to post on schedule...;)
