Okay, FINALLY got a chance to listen to 9 this morning. And seriously, I don't know what all the fangirl carping and WORST ALBUM EVER OMG!1111!!!11! is about. Subete e alone is worth the price of admission - that song is a masterpiece, on a part with the Gemini suite. Hello World is a great combination of funky sounds, speaking and singing (Saga does a GREAT job here - his voice is center stage for more than half the song). Heavenly Tale tells you right off the bat that the band has matured and evolved yet again, and The Arc is a much more matured version of the hard rock stuff (see Kowloon) they did in their earlier days. Throughout, all the instrumentalists show how they've grown and developed over the years, with the guitarists especially impressive.

And I LIKE Niji no Yuki, fanbrats. So there. It is NOT a bunch of random notes strung together. It is a lovely song which shows some of Shou's best singing to date. (And I am NOT just saying that because he's my favorite and he wrote the whole song, music and lyrics.)

The biggest impression I got of the album, though, is that it's very deep, and it's the kind of thing you're going to need multiple listens to truly appreciate. There's a lot going on here, and you don't get it all with one spin.

I really think some of these people who have been complaining are hoping they'd have the raw sound of their early recordings forever. That's not going to happen. People change, grow, and evolve, and in the case of artists, their work is going to change and grow along with them. The fun part is coming along for the ride.

(Oh, unfortunately, I didn't get a Hiroto or Shou label on my CD. I got Nao. Oh, well.)

There are always, alwaya a bunch of very loud "fans" who hate the new material and would only be happy if the band they "like" went back to sounding like they did in their indie days. They refuse to accept that it's a good thing that the band members grow and develop as musicians. They refuse to accept that "their" musicians are getting better, no, they want them to stay the same.

I put those words in quotes because I don't consider those people to be fans when they refuse to even give a new album a chance, but immediately scream bloody murder over them after the first listen when it doesn't sound like the first album of the band. *sigh* It's the same with the GazettE. Gods, the things some people said about Toxic. :(

I'm not a huge fan of A9, but I listen a bit to them... and I have to admit I usually play their older songs because I like how they sound, but I'd never diss the new album like that. Sometimes music needs a lot of listens before your ear starts to get it, sometimes your ear gets it immediately. *g* That's just how it is with all music! I love experiencing how a band or an artist evolves. (And hey, Madonna didn't get to be so enormously successful by not reinventing herself over and over and over. Same with David Bowie. That man has never been the same two albums in a row.)

Oh, I saw some of the things people said about Toxic - I especially remember the words "the album that will ruin the GazettE." And that was the album that got me into the fandom! In fact, Toxic and Stacked Rubbish - another album that seems to be controversial with some fans - are still the two GazettE albums I listen to most.

You're right that these people aren't really fand. There was one commenter in particular who ripped the album and the band a new one every which way - including accusing them of plagiarizing from other acts - and then finished by proclaiming Alice Nine was her favorite band of all time. Hate to see what you say about bands you don't like, chickie.

Nope, don't mind at all! And I am so glad to see other people that agree with me after all the comments I read slamming the album. The more I listen to it, the more I can appreciate how they are continually growing and expanding their sound. (And, dear God, Hello World gets more and more brilliant every time I hear it.) They really do deliver surprises with every album - and these people want them to stay the same. That seems almost self-defeating, if you ask me - why stay with a band if you're not going to develop?

I'm a creeper, but I just need to come here to say how I can't agree with this more than I already do. Everyone threw such a hissy fit over this album about how bad it was. While I'm sitting over here, having a similar reaction I had when I listened to GEMINI first go around. Basically a whole bunch of tears and mumbling about how much I love them. It always hurts me to see people dissing Alice Nine's hard work. It's like they do nothing but sit an criticize. And lately it seems everyone is saying, that everything after Hana (though some are saying everything after RAINBOWS) isn't even worth your money cause it's that bad.

It's refreshing to see I'm not the only one who loves the new album. And Niji no Yuki for that matter ! Which I also thought was great, but watched everyone kick it down. I guess maybe part of mine is because Alice Nine is literally my world, and I'll never stop loving them. And I mean, seeing them evolve over the years I've been with them is a treat for me. I love seeing them grow, and get better. It really makes me smile.

Thanks for making my crappy night a tad better <3

Oh, Lord, the "Everything has SUCKED since then!" goes all the way back to RAINBOWS now? Well, that makes sense, since most of these people seem to be pointing to Alpha as their all-time best album. Alpha was a great collection of songs, that's true - but it wasn't a unified piece of work like Gemini. It really saddens me how these people can't appreciate how the band has grown and developed its art.

And I REALLY don't get the Niji no Yuki backlash - especially since a lot of people were singing its praises when it first came out. I actually think it may be related to the equally ridiculous Leadergate, and the rumors that were flying around that Shou forced Nao out as bandleader. (Nao thought it was time to pass the reins on, and the group chose Shou as the one they would be passed to - why can't people accept it was as simple as that?)

Sadly it does go back that far now. I don't even know what they're going on about. While I love Alpha, VANDALIZE, closely followed by GEMINI are still my favorites (even though I love every song they've ever come out with). I know right ? I love how much they've improved over the years. It's been an honor to see them grow more an more over time.

I didn't understand the backlash for Niji no Yuki either. But actually, I've been poking around. There's some people who loved GEMINI, but then hated BLUE FLAME, Heart of Gold, and Niji no Yuki, an they are highly questioning if they like 9. Then again, these are usually the same people who can't understand they lyrics for Stargazer: completely either, therefore, hating that song too. Oh god I didn't even hear that rumor but I swear to god I'll slap the person who started it. It seems like because Nao has always been the Leader, people are mad that suddenly Shou is leader now. But I feel like Shou may have been taken aback a tad that he was chosen to be leader. He used very polite language in his blog when he spoke of the matter. I trust all the choices they make, I wish others could do the same though you know ?

Sorry for blabbing by the way x.x I haven't had anyone who I could actually talk about this with in a civilized manner so just having someone to speak about it with is nice.

totally agree! i love the album! even though i like GEMINI more, "9" is still awesome. i feel sad knowing that other "fans" are ripping A9 for this album, saying its shit and stuff. i actually listen to their newer songs more than the old ones. It would be boring if they just sounded the same all throughout. (like with paramore, i love them, but some of the songs they've come up with sound the same and it's so boring)

and i just wanted to shoot those people who said shou sounded bad in this album. wtf? i know he's been singing in higher notes these days, but i would say he improved a lot from the previous years. i wanna see them try singing these songs. Some of these songs, I feel like it's only shou that can pull it off. his voice is pretty unique.

sorry for the rant. i was actually looking through ur lj to look for shoupon and i got sidetracked. oh well, gonna look for the smut now. lol.

Oh, I agree that Gemini is still their magnum opus, but this new one is pretty goddamn excellent. And I tend to listen to their more recent work more, too. Maybe it's because I only became a fan within the last couple of years, but I find that the Gemini and Vandalize albums have always been accessed in my iPod more than the earlier two.

Good use of quotation marks around "fans," by the way. I really wonder why some of these people who say everything they have done since Alpha sucks still hang around the fandom. Oh, that's right, for TEH PRETTY. (headwall) Look, I appreciate how pretty they are as much as the next fangirl, but I also appreciate how very far they all have come as musicians.

And, yes, I really don't get the carping over Shou's voice. He has improved immeasurably since their earliest recordings. He's a true vocalist now, with power and technique. He put a lot of work into improving, hiring a vocal coach and all.

LOL, I'm so glad to see you seeking out my past fics! It's only recently that I've learned to do fake cuts and started posting the fics on my actual journal, though - follow the link to the top of my last fic and it will take you to where links for the rest of the series are stored. (Most of them were posted directly to the ShouXHiroto community).

LOL @ TEH PRETTY! There are a lot of bands/groups out there that look pretty good but sound pretty ugly. If A9 was one of them, I probably would just look at their pics and not buy their albums. God knows how much I've spent on the CDs!

I've actually already read all of ur fics in the Stargazer series (plus that mind blowing RukiXShou rimming...i think that was u?) but I was wondering if u had other ShouPon fics outside of that. LOL. It's so difficult looking for alice nine fics. I see a lot of toraxsaga but i'm so not into that pairing. Up to now, I'm still torn between ShouPon and ToraShou. I don't know which one I love more T_T
